What's an Issan Thai Yoga Massage?

Thai massage was developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha — physician to the Buddha — more than 2,500 years ago in India, later refined in Thailand with Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. For centuries it was practiced by monks as one component of Thai medicine.

What does it feel like?+

More energizing and rigorous than classic massage. Your therapist uses hands, knees, legs and feet to move you through yoga-like stretches — like doing yoga without any work. Muscle compression, joint mobilization and acupressure leave you relaxed and energized.

What should I expect?+

It's done on a padded mat on the floor. No oil is applied, so you stay fully dressed — wear comfortable clothing. A typical session runs 60 minutes to two hours.

How should I prepare?+

Don't eat a heavy meal beforehand, and arrive on time for a first visit. Share your complete health history — some conditions aren't suited to Thai massage. If you feel discomfort at any point, tell your therapist.
